Portraits
I am fascinated by painting the human face. At times I will have a model; other times I paint faces from my memory or from my imagination. I paint directly on the canvas, without drawing first. I don’t use a consistent style or method – I choose as to what I feel suits the subject and mood I want to portray. The paintings are often done completely by intuition and on the spur of the moment. While doing life drawing in the 1990s I found that faces were especially interesting for me to paint, and I now go back to doing these from time to time.
